New nickname!

It is official I have a new nickname at work, Socky Simon or as I prefer to be called Socky Si.  If you are wondering why take a look at the photographs in yesterdays post!  It started of completely different at the start of the day so I am glad it changed.  I have had a fantastic day even if it involved shopping until 2pm, which was not bad given the situation at the beginning of the day.

One part of my job that I enjoy is helping customers out with their queries and today I had a very special experience.  A little old lady with one of those 4 wheeled shopping baskets quietly asked me where our ready meals were.  As it happened they were the other side of the store.  I offered to take her there, which she gratefully accepted.  That started the very slow walk to the ready meals aisle but that was ok as we had a lovely chat on the way.  When we eventually arrived I asked if there was anything else I could do to which she replied, “Can you help me chose some chicken and cheesy meals please”.

So we went through the choices and found 3 meals that appealed including a rather tasty chicken in white wine sauce with mash potatoes.  When she said that was all she wanted she thanked me and then asked if I wanted to get into her shopping basket!!   I asked her why and she replied that I was lovely and so helpful that she wanted to take me home!  That made this chap feel very good I can tell you.  I’d love to spend a few hours a day being a proactive helper, going on to the shop floor and actively seeking out customers who look puzzled looking for something.

Now you remember my piece on the different types of bread we sell, well another product we sell caught my eye today, margarine spread.  There is just one make, not our own, which has a bewildering choice available to the shopper.  You start off with the weight, 250g, 500g or 1Kg, and then there are salted; slightly salted or unsalted but the clincher for me is the last set of choices.  You have full fat, half fat, and no fat, light, lighter, and lightest.  Well they say variety is the spice of life.

Well it has been a long day so I am going to good night, morning, afternoon or evening.  This chap needs his beauty sleep, after all tomorrow could be another exciting day.

Until the next time take care.

Si x
